President Trump says he may ban Chinese video sharing app; TikTok

US security officials have expressed concerns about  the Chinese owned app, owned by ByteDance, the US officials claim this app could be used to collect the personal data of Americans.

TikTok has denied accusations that it shares data with the Chinese government.

The fast-growing app has up to 80 million active monthly users in America alone  and the ban could  be a major blow for ByteDance and lead to decrease in share price.

According to president Donald trump, as far as the US is concerned “we are banning the app from the US” President Trump told reporters.

So far no official statement has been issued by the presidency but speculations have it that this could be a long standing trade war between  the two trade giants.

Others also believe the threat to ban Tiktok is a negotiation tactic. He’s pressuring TikTok owner into selling 100% to a US company/fully disentangling from Chinese—which they haven’t yet agreed.
