The electoral commission of of Ghana has finally declared the sitting president of Ghana as the president elect for the 2020 presidential election.
This was after a long tussle between the supporters of the new patriotic party (NPP) and the supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo of the NPP polled 6,730, 413 which is 51.59% of the total votes cast nationwide whiles his closest contender and the leader of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama polled 6, 214, 889 which gives him 47.36% of the total votes cast.
This was announced by the head of the electoral commission who is the returning officer of the presidential election, Jean Mensah.
She added that the results for the Techiman South is outstanding because it’s been contested.
she however, noted that even if all those votes are added to the ones obtained by former President Mahama, it will not add up to the 50 plus 1 per cent he needs to win the election.
