The Electoral commission led by the chair person, Jean Mensah on Wednesday announced the winner of the 2020 presidential election and subsequently declared the president HE Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo as the president Elect.
During the announcement by the electoral commissioner, Jean Mensah, she announced the total valid vote cast as 13,433,573.
This has brought several agitations and calculations especially from the camp of the opposition party as Jean Mensah’s information does not tally with the information on the grounds and the corresponding percentage.
A day after the announcement, the electoral commission has issued a statement which suggests the Electoral Commissioner made a mistake with the figures but they were quick to add the the error does not affect the percentage.
A statement from the commission reads “The chairperson of the electoral commission inadvertently used 13,433,573 as the total votes. The total valid votes cast is 13, 119,460.”
This does not change the percentages stated for each candidate and the declaration made by the chairperson.
